The Thai national team announced the appointment of 'Weerathep' as captain for the warm-up matches against Russia and Vietnam.

The Thai national team announced the appointment of Weerathep Pomphan, a midfielder from True Bangkok United, as the team captain for the team preparing to meet the Russian national team and the Vietnamese national team in the FIFA International ‘A’ Match warm-up game in September 2024 in Vietnam.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been the player chosen by Japanese coach Masatada Ishii the most since taking charge of the War Elephants, playing 9 matches before seeing his suitability after consulting with the association president and appointing him as team captain for the first time, with Elias Dolah, a defender from Bali United, as the vice-captain.

“Madam Pang,” the association president, said, “This time, we are missing many senior players because Coach Ishii’s plan is to give as many opportunities to new players as possible. The reason is to prepare the team for the 2024 ASEAN Championship in advance, so we have discussed the position of team captain.”

“Before seeing the appropriateness, by assigning Veerathep (Pomphan) to do the job for the first time because he is one of the main players who has been with the โปรโมชั่น ufabet team all along and has experience. As for the vice-captain of the team, it will be Elias Dolah, another big brother who can help communicate with both Thai and mixed-race players. I would like to ask the fans to support both of them and this team as well. I believe that everyone will do their best and at the very least we will see a player of the future who will become a mainstay of the Thai national team,” concluded Madam Pang.

For the Thai national team, they will travel to Vietnam on September 5th before their first warm-up match against Russia on September 7th, 2024, followed by Vietnam on September 10th, 2024, with both matches starting at 8:00 p.m. at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, broadcasted live on Channel 32 and Facebook, Youtube Changsuek Official.
